Shiro Yoshida — Sunfire — is voiced by Jonathan Tanigaki in Marvel's Wolverine, with Nobuhiko Okamoto in the Japanese dub. He is a former member of Team X, the unit Nathaniel Essex built around Logan, Victor Creed and Raven Darkhölme, and he had left the team before the game opens. He was absent from every trailer and was first shown in the official prequel comic. In the game, the Japan missions run through his Shinjuku penthouse, and he fights alongside Logan and Jean Grey against Essex in Tokyo at the climax. He is not playable.

Who voices Shiro
Jonathan Tanigaki voices Shiro Yoshida / Sunfire in English. The credit appears in the full cast table on our voice cast page and in the credits-derived cast lists published after launch. The Japanese voice is Nobuhiko Okamoto.
If you heard the name and could not place it, that is expected. Sunfire was the least promoted major character in the game: no trailer, no State of Play footage, no villain-roster slot. He sat in the cast list next to Nicole Pacent's Mystique and Jeff Nordling's Walter, two other roles players only started searching once they reached them.
His place in Team X
The game's version of Team X is not the comics line-up. The official four-part prequel Infinity Comic, written by Walt Williams, puts Shiro Yoshida on the team alongside Logan, Victor Creed (Sabretooth) and Raven Darkhölme (Mystique), assembled by Nathaniel Essex to deal with Bolivar Trask. Screen Rant flagged the reveal in August 2026 because nothing else in the marketing had mentioned him.
By the time the game opens, Shiro is a former member. He and Arkady Rossovich — Omega Red — had both left Team X before the events of the campaign. The game does not treat the break-up as a mystery to solve, so do not expect a reveal about why he walked away.
The game is set before the X-Men exist. In the comics Sunfire is one of the international mutants Professor X recruits in Giant-Size X-Men #1. Putting him in Logan's past is one of the clearer signs of where a sequel could go — but nothing about a sequel has been announced.
Where he appears: the Tokyo missions
Shiro's role is tied to the Japan section of the campaign. Mission 13, Jetlag, takes Logan to Tokyo; from there, his Shinjuku penthouse becomes the base of operations.
| Mission | Shiro's part |
|---|---|
| 15 · Bad Blood | Logan heads to Shiro's building; the mission centres on his penthouse and a hidden room tied to the investigation. |
| 16 · In the Shadows | After catching up to Walter and beating a Fist enemy, Logan returns to Shiro's apartment. |
| 21 · Sinister Tidings | The investigation with Jean picks up again from the penthouse. |
| 29 · No Coming Back | The finale in Tokyo, where Shiro fights beside Logan and Jean. |
The full walkthrough covers every one of these missions step by step.
The final fight (spoilers)
In the climax, Logan, Jean Grey and Shiro battle Essex and a Sentinel on the streets of Tokyo. Comics Beat's review describes the sequence that way, and post-launch ending write-ups credit Shiro and Jean with helping Logan through the finale. Essex's endgame is a giant Sentinel driven by a Helix Engine.
Shiro fights as a story character, not as a second playable hero: Logan is the only playable character in the game. How the rest of the ending plays out — and what it costs Logan — is on our ending explained page, and the boss fight itself is covered in the final boss guide.
Sunfire in the comics
Shiro Yoshida was created by Roy Thomas and Don Heck and first appeared in X-Men #64 (January 1970). He absorbs solar radiation and releases it as superheated plasma, which also lets him fly. His early stories cast him as a Japanese nationalist fighting the United States; he later joined the second X-Men line-up and quit after its first mission.
Later runs made him a member of Big Hero 6, briefly turned him into Apocalypse's Horseman Famine, and brought him back to the X-Men at the Hellfire Gala. Wolverine is the one who recruits him to the Avengers Unity Squad after his fall from grace — the comics link closest to this game's Team X history.
The Famine storyline is comics history. The game's Apocalypse thread is about Logan, not Shiro; see Apocalypse in Marvel's Wolverine.
