The short answer

The leaked gameplay comes from the December 2023 Rhysida ransomware attack on Insomniac Games, which exposed roughly 1.6 TB of internal data including multiple development builds. The footage shows claw combat, stealth, sense-tracking and parkour traversal from unfinished builds that differ noticeably from the retail release.

What this page does and does not do

No downloads, no links, no mirrors.

This page documents what was reported about the leaked material and how it compares to the finished game. We do not link to the files, name mirrors, or suggest ways to obtain them. ISPs issued DMCA notices to downloaders, with account suspension as a stated consequence.

Insomniac has never endorsed any leaked build. The retail release from September 15, 2026 is the only authoritative version of this game.

How the leak happened

In December 2023, the Rhysida ransomware group breached Insomniac Games and exfiltrated roughly 1.6 TB of data — about 1.3 million files. The group attempted to auction the data, with reporting citing a 50-bitcoin opening bid, then published it.

The dump contained concept art, casting documents, release planning material and multiple Wolverine development builds, including Milestone 8 and Milestone 13.

Wikipedia's entry on the game records that development was affected by the attack. Insomniac's public statement called the incident "extremely distressing" and emphasised that the game was in early development at the time.

What the footage actually contained

The leaked video material spanned several sources: early 2021 test footage, a 2022 combat demonstration, roughly 25 minutes of recorded playable build content, and assorted clips that later circulated on social platforms.

Documented content included:

  • Claw combat and finishers
  • Stealth mechanics
  • Sense-based tracking — following glowing golden hoofprints to a target
  • Parkour-style climbing — Logan scaling buildings with his claws and jumping between rooftops
  • A bar brawl in the Princess Bar against ninjas, using claws and thrown props like stools and beer bottles
  • A yellow-and-blue suit design in some clips
  • An apparent empowered state triggered by clicking both sticks after taking damage

The traversal footage and what it implied

Game Rant's June 17, 2024 report focused on the traversal clips, where Logan climbs building faces with his claws and leaps between rooftops. Players immediately drew comparisons to Insomniac's Spider-Man movement systems.

Some of the footage came from short social-media clips featuring the yellow-and-blue costume; other, longer segments came from what circulated as an unofficial PC build.

Game Rant issued the appropriate caveat at the time: this material came from unfinished builds and had very likely been changed or upgraded since. That caution proved correct — the retail game is a linear action title, not a traversal-driven open world.

Leak versus retail: the known differences

The clearest divergence is geography. Story documents in the leak listed planned locations as Alaska, Avalon, Canada, Japan and Madripoor. The official PlayStation page lists the shipped locations as Canada, Japan and Madripoor only.

Alaska and Avalon appear nowhere in official material for the finished game. No source establishes whether they were cut, merged or renamed.

The playable build was also structurally unlike the retail game — a set of tutorials and prototype mission templates (Shipyard, Construction, NYPD) rather than campaign content. Our Milestone 13 page catalogues that build in detail.

How much can you trust it?

Very little, as a guide to the finished game. These were in-development builds from 2021 to 2023, and the game shipped in September 2026 — a gap of three years across which systems, locations and scope all changed.

TheGamer's characterisation is the right one: what leaked was a tutorial-and-vertical-slice collection built to demonstrate mechanics and vision internally. It was never a preview.

Judging the retail game's quality from this footage is a mistake in both directions — it neither proves the game is good nor proves it is bad.

Which leaked ideas made it into the retail game

Comparing the leaked material against the finished game is the one genuinely useful thing to do with it, and the results are mixed.

Survived: claw combat and finishers are central to the retail game. Optional stealth survived, and the retail version confirms there is no failure penalty for detection. Sense-based tracking survived as Logan's heartbeat-detection mechanic.

Changed or unclear: the parkour traversal emphasis reads differently in a linear game than the leaked footage implied. The apparent empowered state triggered by clicking both sticks does not match the retail Rage system, which builds across three tiers through combat rather than activating on a button.

Did not survive: Alaska and Avalon, both listed as planned locations in leaked documents, are absent from the official location list of Canada, Japan and Madripoor.

The pattern is what you would expect. Core mechanical pillars persisted; structure, geography and specific systems were reworked across three additional years of development.

The Princess Bar footage and what it showed

The single most circulated clip was a brawl in a location called the Princess Bar, and it is worth describing because it is what most people mean by "the leaked gameplay."

The footage shows Logan fighting ninjas, using claw attacks and picking up environmental objects — bar stools and beer bottles — to throw. Environmental combat did carry through to the retail game, where kicks launch enemies into scenery.

The Princess Bar is a real Marvel location, strongly associated with Madripoor and with Logan's "Patch" era there. Its presence in a 2021–2023 build lines up with Madripoor being confirmed as a retail location, so this is one of the clearer continuities.

Other clips showed a yellow-and-blue costume, which is consistent with the classic look that informed the retail Battle Reborn suit.

None of this footage represents finished quality. It came from builds that predate release by years, and Game Rant flagged at the time that the material had very likely been changed since.

Why not to go looking

Beyond the legal exposure — ISPs have sent DMCA notices demanding deletion, with account termination as escalation — there is a security dimension. Cracked builds distributed through unofficial mirrors are a standard malware delivery route, and there is no trustworthy source for stolen files by definition.

There is also the human element. This material exists because a criminal group attacked a studio and published its employees' work and personal data. Circulating it extends that harm.

If what you actually want is to see the game, the official trailers show far more of the finished product than any 2023 build does, and our gameplay page covers the retail systems.
